Clincial Data
AHA’s and BHA’s work by loosening the glue holding the skin’s cells together, then causing the top layer of skin to exfoliate which: 1) improves skin tone and texture; 2) reduces fine lines and wrinkles; and 3) fades age spots. These compounds also help control oily skin and acne-associated problems. There are a variety of products available that contain AHA’s, including cleansers, moisturizers, and various skin treatments for face and body. “Frequent and daily use of cosmetic and skincare products that contain alpha-hydroxy acids (AHA’s) moisturizes the skin and produces smoother, less-wrinkled skin surfaces. The cosmetic products developed as astringents and exfoliants diminish skin scales and remove excess skin oil, “Alpha-hydroxy acids” (AHA’s) are naturally occurring acids derived from certain plants, fruits, sour milk, and sugar cane. Beta-hydroxy acids (BHA’s) are a salicylic acid; these could be the next generation of hydroxyl acids.
